I do nothing at Vox. I do a bunch of stuff here at 43T.
I saw a comment by a person named Adi at NYC’s blog. It was funny. It led me to Adi’s Vox. It was even funnier.
I left a comment at Adi’s funny Vox. He responded. We exchanged emails. His were funny (recurring theme with Adi). They established – Adi, the Stock-Broker is 24. Vrinda, the AY is 39 and in the Software Industry. She exercises a lot and is on a perennial weight-loss pursuit. Adi does not exercise. He is super-thin (like Adrien Brody in The Pianist he says.) Adi likes golf and graphic novels. Vrinda has no interest in either. Adi is a bear who has built an awesome portfolio that has appreciated many X over, since he was 16 years old. Vrinda hates anything to do with stocks and investments and wishes she could unlearn the little she knows, like a smattering of an understanding of who a bear abd a bull are. The only thing they have in common is that they both like crazy British sitcoms and the music of Rachael Yamaguta.
I discovered he lived in my city. Not just. He lived in my neighbourhood.
I invited him home.
How does a supposedly mature, Indian, married person tell her husband, her mother and her mother-in-law who live with her, that she has invited someone she met on the Internet home on the basis of one rapid email volley?
She does not. That is right. She does not say anything.
Appointed hour arrives. Door bell dings. Vrinda’s mum opens the door to see a young boy who would give Adrien Brody a run for his money, asking for her daughter. Daughter saunters to the door too and takes Adi into the living room to meet hubby. Nonchalantly she says “Hi. This is Adi. I met him on the Internet.”, like 39 year old married women do this on a regular basis. She must have said it with the right degree of nonchalance. Hubby smiles his usual smile of welcome.
Vrinda leaves hubby and Adi together to talk while she goes to find Brticoms DVDs to lend Adi. Adi apparently makes polite conversation for a few minutes and then says “May I go and join her?” He leaves hubby alone and walks out to the room where Vrinda is messing with DVDs. They talk. They talk a lot. This 24 year old boy and this 39 year old woman. She is struck by how he is still a child in so many ways, and yet older than most middle-aged people she knows. His intelligence is blindingly apparent.
At some point Adi says “You are not fat. You are fine.” It is so abrupt, Vrinda cannot help laughing. Adi rushes on “No. Really. Even my mother would say you are fine.”
After Adi leaves, what really happened dawns on hubby. He starts laughing.
We met a few times thereafter. Like for coffee some days ago like in this pic.
I like Adi-Kadi. I like him a heck of a lot.
